spcrnr Open Thread for the Week of April 05 pdf

Some of our most productive and interesting conversations have come from open threads where almost anything goes. Speaker's Corner is a topic that is dedicated to open-conversation about almost anything that's on your mind.
The real Speaker's Corner is located in the north-east corner of London's Hyde Park where public speaking is allowed. There is no immunity from the law at speaker's corner, and while the police tend to be tolerant, they do not allow profanity or unlawful behavior. You may be jeered, ridiculed, enthusiastically supported, or completely ignored. Now, what's on your mind?

I had to turn off the radio just before Brian said who he would vote for on the 4 year term. I did manage to listen right up to the commercial break.
Brian said he thought my name not being on the ballot was too steep a hill to get over. I understand that position, but I must say – it is only too steep a hill if you allow it to be.

When he went to commercial break, it was down to the two incumbents....Who'd he pick?

Matt, having narrowed it down to Betsy Sockard or Dan Calkins as being the number three vote getter, he says he is going to vote for Betsy. Many of the reasons he has said before about Dan & thinking things will work beter without him & drama and he also thinks there shopuld be minority representation on council. He also said this was not a matter of personal choice but, as matter of what he believes the outcome will be. He just thinks it will be Dan or Betsy for #3 vote getter & he agrees with Betsy more than Dan.
He also says if the responsible bidder goes through tonight that the new council should not revisit it anytime in the near future, even though he is personally oposed to it, he thinks the new council should concentrate on getting things done and not revisiting the past. That revisiting the responsible bidder would get in the way of making progress on the existing problems.

Thanks Steve!  I'm not suprised by his pick...lol...I think he's wrong, but I understand his thinking...

Matt, again I want to stress he was not picking his choice, but what he thought the outcome would be, he had given you and brown both pats on the back but was going to vote for Betsy whatever infulence his choice had.

Oh yeah Steve, I heard the comments about Adam and me, and I’m not discouraged at all.
I would like to see him go to bed tomorrow night thinking: “Hmmm, I didn’t think Matt would pull it off, but you know, he did!”

Lol – My ego’s not so sensitive that Brian not picking me as one of his top three will hurt my feelings.  If I do win I reserve the right to go by the station Wednesday morning and make “moose ears” at him (come to think of it, I reserve the right to do that anyway)!

Responsible bidder passed tonight – no surprise there.

Also, I was just browsing the Decatur Tribune website, and found this.

From the article:

The statement by State's Attorney Jack Ahola follows:

"On April 3, 2009, the Macon County State's Attorney's office was made aware of a report of an alleged bribe to Decatur City Councilwoman Betsy Stockard. The office conducted an investigation into the allegation which included conducting interviews and reviewing relevant documentary evidence. This investigation found no evidence of the crime of Bribery or of the crime of Failure to Report a Bribe."
