dec Conversation on Race pdf

My wife and I went last night – it was good.  The most hearting thing I took away from the conversation was a reassurance that while race absolutely plays a role in how we see the world, it doesn’t have to dictate how we behave in it.  We all are, after all, partners in this world, and we’re all working together towards the same the same goals: prosperity, opportunity, community, and self-respect.
I’m also happy to report there was a pretty big audience.  I won’t hazard a guess on the number, but definitely in the several hundreds. It was a diverse group, too - age, sex, and ethnicity-wise…Very nice to see!

Bottom line, if you went last night – I thought it was a good chat – what did you think? If you missed it, bummer! Keep your ear to the ground and try to make it to the next one.

On a totally tangential and political line (sorry) -
I didn’t realize Marcia and John Phillips was (were? - are?) the President(s) of the Black Chamber of Commerce.  They were both there, and practically jumped out of their seats when the question “Is the president of the Black Chamber in the audience?”…Dan Caulkins was there too…I wonder how many other people were tempted to ask to see his I.D. I wonder if anyone did?  Just behind Dan sat Steve Daniels – I didn’t get to talk to him.

I didn't see any other city council candidates....Not that they may not have been there - I just didn't spot them.

OK, that’s enough of that….

I bet that was interesting. I might have gone because I would like to do what I can to help lesson the racial divid we still have in this country and this community.   I had to work both Wed and Thurs evenings last week....
