dec The city is on twitter! pdf
by matthew on Tue Jul 14 10:33:04 CDT 2009
If you’re in to tweeting, the city of Decatur is on twitter!!!  The city’s username is:  AccessDecatur. So far they’ve posted several handy tweets on parking, reorganization of offices after the voluntary severance plan, along with a handful of other handy-city-factoids…
I’m following their tweets.

I'll post a proper link to the citys account at lunchtime...
I’m on twitter too at matthew62522 – maybe I’ll tweet council meetings live one of the days.

I have always tried to avoid all the TWITS!  And now our leaders are advertising they are TWITS! This is one messed up world LOL!

lol..Twitter messages are "tweets", and I'm sorry to say, I'm becoming addicted.

Tweets are short messages - 160characters or less.

Yes, even I have succumbed to Twitter's power and I said I would never ever use it.  It is kind of fun though.  It's 140 characters or less which makes for some strange phrases.

Yup, I forgot, Kris - twitter's limit is 140 characters, not 160 (that's SMS).  Twitter reserves 20 for their own use...

What's your id?

oh wonderful - more discussions in very short sound bytes!!  Just what we need      =]

(just being a smart aleck) Actually I'm glad to see all the city is doing/trying by way of improving communications with citizens it is pretty impressive...

Ya I know what it is LOL.  Its Twitter I have an example on how the word should be pronounced but I don't want to violate the vulgarity rule I'm sure you can figure it out LOL.

The Blues Band last night was awesome, the guy that Sang from Champaign was unreal very very talented and very unassuming.  For everyone who says there is nothing to do in Decatur you need to get out of your houses because there is plenty of fun entertaining activities that go on through out the summer.

My id is haywiregraphics. I like what the city is trying to do too but some of the Tweets are kind of funny.

"The city is not proposing the increase. It was requested by garbage haulers and hearing is to hear from haulers and the public."  translated to "Stop blaming us.  We didn't do it.  Blame the greedy garbage haulers!"

"With parking we want to ensure that the system serves the downtown area and collect from drivers who owe. 119 ppl owe $500 or more."  translated to "Park where you're supposed to and walk more than 10 ft you lazy bums. Pay your @!%! fines!"

I like your picture of Blues in Central Park.  I've never gone to one of those.  Looks like fun.  I'll have to do that in the future.  Look I'm already writing in short bursts like a Tweet, as if my grammar and writing wasn't bad enough already.

Yeah, that's one of the interesting things about tweets - they're short and pretty much require packing as much information in to as small a space as possible.

I don't think it's good for everything (goodness knows, I love writing long rambling posts!).  For short, to-the-point and off-the-cuff observations on the run; it's great.

On the downside, I can imagine the spin/mud-slinging this technology will enable...Imagine:  "On July 17, you tweeted 'I'm grumpy today'; Exactly how long have you been struggling with clinical depression?"...

When I get my own head better wrapped around the subject, I'll write a lot more on synergistic tweeting and blogging.  I think this is only the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

LOL Kris soon we will never have verbal contact with anyone ever.

I will remind you next month Kris it is enjoyable and they have some good food there too.  Matt you can probably hear the music at your house can't you?

So whats the latest on the parking violations?  Its hard to believe thousands of dollars in parking tickets in our downtown.  I drive through when I get lunch and run errands and see the parking garage on wood street close to empty every day.  I agree with kris, get off you lazy but and park in the garage.  Isn't  part of the ambiance of down town the walk?

LOL!  There's enough dirt on my mental insufficiencies to fill the Grand Canyon on my blog.  But I figure it's better to just tell the truth and run with it.  Let the chips fall where they may.
It's all in God's hands anyway.

But yeah, a political oponent would have a heyday picking lines and photos from their rival's social networking page, and creating smear ads out of them.  Remember those awful ads against Scot England?  That one funny picture of him dressed like Weird Al Yankovich probably cost him the election.

And Doug, I was just watching Fox News (I know, don't shoot me) and they were talking about the 40th anniversary of the moon landing and how we've shifted all of our energy and technologies into making it easier to communicate with each other through computers and other devices, while forgetting about exploring our universe - heck even our own backyards.  I have to remind myself to go outside sometimes myself.

Next week I'll start passing out some postcards around the neighborhood about the next meeting.  There's some people from church who are going to go who live in the neighborhood.  Oh, and if anyone living in the Ravina Park or Home Park neighborhoods wants to come to the meeting, it will be at Oak Grove Church of the Nazarene, on the corner of Summit and Garfield Ave, at 7:00 pm on Thursday July 30th.  Come on out and join us.  I'll bring some refreshments and cookies or something to snack on.  (Ancient Nazarene secret to bringing in the lost sheep.)
